1. HGZ VF

by Zeljko Heimer , 26 April 1999

The flag of 1. HGZ VF i.e. "1. Hrvatski Gardijski Zbor Vojske Federacije" (1st Croatian Guarding Muster of the Army of the Federation) is the Croatian tricolour with chequy shield over a cross forming tripple wattle ornament. The 1. HGZ VF is (as far as I understood) the largest unit of the Army of Federation of B&H of the Croatian component. The Army of the Federation is formed according the Dayton agreements by joining of the Army of B&H (Armija BiH, i.e. Bosnian Muslim amry) and Croatian Defence Council (Hrvatsko Vijece Obrane, HVO, i.e. army of Croats in B&H).
The 1. HGZ VF was granted on the celebration of 7th anniversary of HVO on 8 April 1999 in Mostar, by general major Stank Sopta, former commander of HVO.

On the photos in the same article there is visible the former military flag of HVO: one coloured filed (probably olive-green) with the symbol equal to the shoulder patch of HVO: golden bordered olive- green "inverted shield" shaped with chequy shield surounded with rope circlet, under it two black crossed rifles and under that letter HVO in white.
